Hello! My name is Barbara Hatton. I am a 1987 graduate of GCHS and 1989 graduate of Ball State University. My parents are David and Rita Doles of Greensburg. I am the middle child and have an older brother, Dan, and younger sister, Angie. My husband Jeff and I have 3 beautiful daughters Kelsey, Taylor and Emma. Last August, we welcomed our first grandchild, Kyren, and this July, we will be welcoming another grandson! Nothing makes my heart happier!

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Jeff and I were married on January 26, 1991. We have 3 daughters—Kelsey Mosier, Taylor Moeller, and Emma Hatton. Kelsey is an RN at Major Hospital and is married to Zach Mosier. They have one son, Kyren, who is almost 6 months old. Taylor is a Physical Therapy Assistant at Progressive Physical Therapy in Greensburg and is married to Kyle Moeller. They are expecting their first child in July 2023. Emma is a freshman at Purdue University studying Nursing. Jeff and I are so fortunate to have Kelsey and Taylor live less than 5 minutes away.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
Jeff and I currently own and operate Hatton Farms, Inc. We grow corn and soybeans, and contract a 3,000 head hog facility. We also grow and sell produce, where I spend my summer months going to area farmers markets 4-5 days a week. What I love most about my job is that we take part in providing food to help feed the nation and our community!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived in Decatur County most of my life, aside from 7 years living in Bartholomew County, about a mile from Hartsville. We lived there from 1993-2001 then moved back to Greensburg to start farming full-time.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Although she is no longer with us, I would have to say my piano teacher, Lois Carol McCormack. I know on many occasions during lessons, she would spend more time talking than teaching. We had many interesting conversations!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Honestly, I would love to travel all over our own beautiful country. There are so many places I want to see right here in the USA. Alaska and Maine are at the top of my list!

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Favorite Movie—McFarland USA, and favorite TV show—reruns of The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Give 100% in everything you do.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To be able to tag along as a photographer with someone on a hunting expedition in Canada or out west. Oh, the pictures of nature I would love to take!

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I would have to say Pizza King. It was always the go to place in high school after games and it still is today!

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Carol Koester—she’s my neighbor and I don’t see her much! We would meet at Carriage on the Square.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing about our community is how everyone knows everyone and people are so friendly and truly care.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In five years, probably still doing the same thing! In 10 years, if not retired at least being close to it! I want to travel!

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I am a New Year’s Baby. I was the first baby born in Decatur County in 1969. A photo of my mom and me was in the paper. Back then, I received a pair of baby shoes from Battertons Drug Store on the west side of the square.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Oregon’s West Coast is very beautiful.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
My favorite month would be October when the leaves turn. My favorite holiday is Christmas and I have 5 best single days…our anniversary, my girls’ birthdays, and my grandson’s birthday.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My daughters—I want to be a good example for them.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Farming, Comfort, and Security
